What a Little Dancing Will Do

    ©Susan Harrison

Met him by the lake on the fourth of July.
He smelt like peaches from some picnic pie.
Laughter embraced me before I knew why
we were waltzing through clover, under lavender skies.

Ooooo What a little dancing will do,
Oooo Won’t ‘cha come dancing with me?
    Come dancing with me.

We’d dance for birthdays and half birthdays too.
waltz in the memory of friends we once knew.
Celebrate seasons with a new step or two.
Honey hold on tight we’ll trip the light, it just feels so right.

    Repeat chorus.

Some folks count their luck by petals on a stem (love’s me, love’s me not).
Me, I measure my luck by folks understanding.
Understanding that they need to dance.

Now my destiny dance soon will be over.
Yet, given a chance to waltz barefoot in clover
I’d do it all over and over again.
So, when the peaches are ripe, in a summertime sky.
Waltz barefoot in clover and eat a peach pie and don’t question why.
    You'll know.....

    Repeat chorus

    Lucky Enough to Be Happy

    Lucky Enough to be Happy

    ©  Susan Harrison

Got up early,  ran a race.

I didn’t come in first, not sure I even placed.

I played some ball, shot a hoop or two.

Got  kinda close, but close will never do.

I lost at poker, golf and the lottery.

Just how lucky can one gal be?

    Lucky’s all I see,

Long as, I’ve got you and you’ve got me.

    Lucky,  Lucky as can be

‘cause we’re lucky enough to be happy.

    Lucky enough, luck lucky enough.

    Lucky enough, luck lucky enough.

    So I went fishing, I didn’t get a bite.

But that’s ok, things will be alright.

No need to flip a coin, no need to roll the dice,

You’ve got me baby, so don’t think twice.

    seems there’s nothing I can’t do

    Long as I’ve got you.

I feel lucky, lucky all I see.

I feel lucky, lucky you, lucky me

‘cause we’re lucky enough to be happy,

    Lucky enough, luck, lucky enough,

    lucky enough, luck, lucky enough

So, when I  get up in the morning and before I go to bed each night

I’ve learned to  appreciate all the things that I get right.

    I feel lucky, lucky’s all I see,

I feel lucky, lucky you, lucky me.

‘cause we’re lucky enough to be happy,

    Lucky enough, luck, lucky enough,

    lucky enough, luck, lucky enough

    Lucky enough to be happy.

    Leave a Light One

    Leave A Light On

    © Susan Harrison

Our love’s playing hide and seek

getting harder and harder to find.

Some search their whole lives through

to find what I’ve found with you.

    Now embers are burning low,

     baby, baby please show me

    the way home to you.

Leave a light on when the honeymoon’s over.

    Let your love light shine.

Don’t forget to share your love, as we enter a brand new phase.

Love, hey love guide us through, that’s what love can do.

    That’s what love will do.

Folks say there’s a lid for every pot.

Here I come ready, ready or not.

Gonna shine some light your way

hoping you can shine a ray to me.

    I’ve got matches too,

candles and a flashlight that’ll shine right through

and I still see a flicker in you.

Leave a light on when the honeymoon’s over.

    Let your love light shine.

Don’t forget to share your love, as we enter a brand new phase

Love, hey love  guide us through, that’s what love will do

    We can help too.

So leave a light on, yeah I’m gonna find you.

Leave a light on, yeah I’m gonna find you.

    Leave a light on.

Brenda’s been seachin’ for a man,                                                                                                                                                           sitting on a barstool anytime she can,
make it to the pool hall have a little fun,                                                                                                                                                  glance around the tables try and find someone.
Saunter to the dance floor,  have a drink, a drink or two,                                                                                                                       she’s starting to believe, any dude’ll do.

Met Tommy on a Tuesday, at the Out of sight Café.
He was dark and dingy, not a lot to say.
A real live fixer-upper, invited him to supper that day.
His potential may seem low. You never really, never really know,
besides Brenda’s on a mission to find herself a beau.

And she will la la love him, enough to ch ch  change him.
He’s almost good enough to keep. To  keep, how sweet.
She’ll la la la love him enough to re  rearrange him
‘Cause right  na na  now he’s kind of a creep possibilities  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Tommys  been  lookin’ for a life. Brenda’s got a job, maybe she could be his wife.
And clean his socks and cook his food and give him lots of latitude-
He’s been around the block,  she’s been around the yard. Together life might not seem so hard.

And he ‘ll  la la love her enough to ch ch change her.
She’s almost good enough to keep. To keep, to keep, how sweet.
He’ll  la la  love her or he’ll exch ch change her,
‘cause right na na  now he’s in pretty deep.  possibilities. Yeah, yeah, yeah,

Married on a monday. Ignorance is bliss. Wove their lives together, why not seal it with a kiss?
Honeymoon travels, unraveled their plans. ‘Cause change don’t come easy, changing can be hard.
That’s what I read on the back of her postcard.

Yet they’re in la la love, right na na  now.
They’re in la la love, right now, right now, right na na now.
They’re in la la la love, right na na na now.
They’re in la la la love, right now,  possibilities.

Hug my hand, Hug my heart

Hug My Hand (Hug my Heart)

By: Susan Harrison & Leeanne Brookfield

No need to go to bed angry. No need to go to bed scared.

It’s my job to guide you, You must know how much I care.

The movies over. You still won’t look at me.

reaching for popcorn I touch your hand and hug hug hug you

Three times says I love you.

It’s a silent message between me and you.

No words are needed. I’m so glad we started

Hug my hand. (3X)  Hug my heart.

Waiting at the bus stop, time to say good bye

You’re anxious to get going, I just want to cry.

You’re growing up so quickly,  sure don’t want your friends to see.

you turn to sneak a wave, and I grab your hand and hug, hug, hug you

    Repeat chorus

Sometimes words get in the way, when you don’t know what to say

Three little hand hugs guides you through with a

love ya, love ya, love ya, yeah I do.

Driving home with groceries, buckled in our seats.

Bad news crowds the radio, it’s so hard to retreat.

reaching for the dial, sad as can be.

You gently grab my hand and hug me, hug me, hug me

    Repeat chorus

    Lonely, Miss Understood

    Lonely Miss Understood
    by: Susan Harrison

    Late again, dinners cold
With no call or reason to be put on hold.
Did you change you mind or just forget?
Or did ya just not think of me yet.
    Seems like it’s always you,
telling me what to think, say and do.

That’s why I feel so lonely, whenever you’re near.
That’s why I feel so lonely, when you’re right here.

Do you want a lover or just a friend?
Do you just want to keep up this big pretend?
Do you want a maid or a trophy wife?
Or do ya just want to get on with your life?
Seems like you always talk the talk.
Yet you can’t walk the walk.

That’s why I feel so lonely, whenever you’re near.
That’s why I feel so lonely, when you’re right here.

You can call me mistaken, no, I’m just Miss Understood.
You must be Mr. Wrong, ‘cause when I’m with you
I feel so lonely, I’m lonely Miss Understood. I’m so lonely.

Can’t seem to hear a word you say,
When your actions are screaming at me that way.
I wish I could wave a wand, start anew,
But I don’t see much hope for me and you.
When it’s always you, telling me what to think, say and do.

That’s why I feel so lonely, whenever you’re near.
That’s why I feel so lonely, when you’re right here.
I’m lonely Miss Understood, I’m lonely Miss Understood,

    Thing or Three About Love

    Thing or Three About Love

     © Susan Harrison

Love comes, love goes, pages open, chapter’s close.

So why’d we stay in love? I wanna know,

‘Cause love has ups and downs, highs and lows

Good, bad, happy, sad and mad.

I know a thing or three about love.

One thing I know, you reap what you sow.

So, you better be good, you better be kind.

If love’s so blind, why’d we see to intertwine so beautifully.

Why you, why me, why’d we get as lucky as a couple can be?

    Why’d we stay in love.

Oh, here’s the secret the magic key to unlock the mystery of love’s longevity.

Here’s how we stay in love.

We never fell out of love at the same time.

That would be bad, that would be sad.

No we never fell out of love at the same time.

So, hold me close, give me space. Somehow we manage to find our place.

That’s how we stay in love.  Yeah I know a thing or three about.

I know a thing or two about, I know you so I know love.

    Ten Cent Shoes

    Ten Cent Shoes
    © Susan Harrison

On my way to see you I bought a pair of shoes
at a little yard sale, barely been used.
I slipped ‘em on, paid the dime, could not refuse,
started skipping down the street in my ten cent shoes.

Oh, my new shoes, my new blue shoes.
I was feeling like a million in my ten cent shoes.
My new shoes, my new blue shoes.
I was feeling like a million in my ten cent shoes.

Well I danced up your drive and I knocked on your door.
Felt like Ginger Roger when you swirled me cross the floor.
As you dipped me way down low, they flew right off my toes.
My new blue, ten cent shoes.

That’s when you got down on one knee and slipped ’em gently back on me.
You’re such a nice, sweet, sweet fella.
Made me feel, yeah you made me feel like Cinderella.
La la la la loved -Yeah….

In my new shoes, my new blue shoes.
I was feeling like a million in my ten cent shoes.
My new shoes, my new blue shoes.
I was feeling like a million in my ten cent shoes.

Sometimes the little things that happen ‘long the way,
Help me remember those very special days.
I enjoy ‘em every one but what’s special ‘bout today,
    Is spending time with you,
and finding my blue, ten cent shoes.

Oh my new shoes, my new blue shoes
I was feeling like a million in my ten cent shoes.
My new shoes my new blue shoes.
I was feeling like Ginger Rogers,
    Feeling like Cinderella,
Feeling loved, la la la la la loved
in my new, blue ten cent shoes. Yeah…….

    So They Say

So They Say          © Susan Harrison

Read it in the newspaper, must be true
Why would a paper ever lie to me or you?
Heard it on the radio, must be right,
Why would a radio want to start a fight?
Well they this, they that, they s always say that that that.
    That's just what they say.

So they say, so they say .What they say, what they say,
So they say, so they say. What, the hey, who are they?

Half truths, blurred intent, It's so easy to just invent
a sliver of an idea,  fraction of  facts.
So before I get comfortable or over react.
I think, there might be another way?
    You know what they say......

So they say, so they say.  What they say, what they say
So they say so they say. I ask myself, who are they?

Consider the source to find what their after.
Stay on course to avert disaster.
Weight it out, think it through.
Then we’ll know just what to do. When they say.

When they say, when they say, What they say, what they say.
So,what the hey didilly i ay. I ask myself, who are they?

A little birdie told me, or was it politician or preacher
friend or foe, supervisor or teacher.
Rumor has it, gospel according to who?
All I'm suggesting is, think it through.

When they say, when they say. What they say, what they say.
What the hey didilly i ay. HMMM who are they?
Weight it out, think it through then you know what to do
Weight it out think it through, then you'll know what to do.

    Beers Ago

    Beers Ago

    By: © Susan Harrison

Remember when you were so clever and wise, I could never do wrong in your eyes?

Remember when where you wanted to be was in my arms holding me?

Interesting stories, speech that was clear, you could walk without stumbling or spilling a beer.

Yeah, but that was beers ago.

Beers ago, cans and bottles and pints ago.

Beers ago, that was beers and beers ago.

Remember when you could play guitar and you knew where you parked the car?

Remember when you, you, you could leally drive too.

You were slightly less gregarious, yet situations were less precarious.

You were minding your P’s and Q’s beers and beers ago.

    Repeat chorus

I drank to your heath in the tavern, I drank to your health in my home.

I’ve drunk to your health so many times I believe I’ve ruined my own.

Remember when you thought you were so funny? Well beer has changed all that honey.

So, I’ll just sit and sip my wine and whine and whine about the good ‘ole times.

That were…..Beers ago, cans and bottle and pints ago.

Beers ago, beers and beers ago.

    If I Were A Shoe

    If I Were a Shoe  ©Susan Harrison

When I was young, I would misplace many things, many times.
So, I’d ask my Dad to help me retrace, my steps so I might hopefully find
    lost things I left behind.

He said to me, “Gotta think differently.
Here’s something works well for me.
Imagine, just become what you want to see
and ask yourself, where could I be?”

Where could I be? Where could I be?
If I were a shoe, a watch or a key I’d ask where could I be?
Where could I be, where could I be?

Well I found my wallet, found my shoe, keys, sunglasses and books overdue.
All I really had to do was ask where, where would I be?
Socks, earrings, kittens, jobs, hats and love, throughout the years, I’ve lost all the above.
Yet, sometimes when I sit quietly, things seem to even find me… when I ask.
Where could I be? Where could I be?
If I were a shoe, a watch or a key or if I wanna find me.
I ask where could I be?

We lost you one Monday, when you slipped away.
No matter how hard we all did pray.
Well, I searched my heart and I searched my mind.
Who do you think I did find. When I asked,
Where could you be, where could you be?
In hearts of people, people like me, that’s where you’ll forever be.

    For You

    For You

    © Susan Harrison

No more oatmeal kisses, no more dragon pie,

No more monster milkshakes, no more lullabies.

In the blink of an eye, I can’t believe what I see.

is my little baby taller, taller than me?

With a snap of a shutter, memories I cling to keep,

but our days are numbered you’re ready to take the leap.

                Just know that……

Wherever you go, whatever you do.

I’ll be on the sidelines cheering for you.

Wherever you go, whatever you do.

Oh ya gotta know that I’ll be there

I’ll be there for you. For you.

Some lessons are hard to teach. Some children are hard to reach.

Some rules don’t make sense. I say in my defense.

Some reasons aren’t reason enough to put up with all the stuff.

Take what you can use. Do with it as you choose.

                Just know that…..Repeat chorus

No more carpools and curfews haunting me anymore.

No more critters lined up in buckets at my backdoor.
